A demigod who can kill with a touch. It’s an ability that must be kept secret from everyone, even from those trusted most.

Finding out that her new school had her in a special homeroom for witches was strange enough, but now Nicole must face the realization that she has the rare power to kill with just a touch. It’s a secret she needs to keep not only from the Head Elders, but from the super-sexy witch Blake, who she’s had undeniable chemistry with even before he broke up with his long-term girlfriend, the vengeful witch Danielle.

Now Nicole and the four others gifted with powers over the elements, including Blake and Danielle, must stop a series of monsters that they previously believed to be dead from rising once again and destroying the mortal world. Three magical items are needed, including the blood of the slain hydra – ingredients that they must journey to the dangerous, mystical islands in Greece to retrieve.

The monsters they face on this journey will be more threatening than anything they’ve encountered yet. But with the fate of the world on their shoulders, it’s up to the Elementals to return home victorious. Will they find the ingredients they need? Can Nicole and her friends pull off this mission while the tension between her, Blake, and Danielle threatens to ruin everything? And how long will it be until Nicole is forced to use her ability to kill in front of everyone, revealing the true darkness of her powers?

Find out in The Blood of the Hydra, and join the Elementals on their next journey in their quest to save the world – or die trying.

Thank you to Dreamscape Publishing for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.

THE BLOOD OF THE HYDRA is a strong sequel to the ELEMENTALS series, right after THE PROPHECY OF SHADOWS. (Here’s my review to the first book!) I had pretty high hopes for this book, and I was not disappointed.

This book focuses on the journey of the five Elementals as they travel to Europe to retrieve the three ingredients needed to make the potion in order to kill the mythical monsters. I thoroughly enjoyed the group’s journey to get all the ingredients and reading about their problem-solving skills to get all three components. This book was very plot-driven, which really made it enjoyable to read.

The secondary characters were also developed more, which I enjoyed. The strained relationship between Danielle and Nicole is shown to be less tense, and I enjoyed reading about how all five of the Elementals worked together again. Moreover, there was more tension between Blake and Nicole, which I liked reading. Again, since the book was more plot-driven, it didn’t fully focus on the romance between Blake and Nicole, which was nice. There were also introductions to a few new characters, including Ethan, who I hope makes another appearance in the series because I feel like he has a lot of potential.

Overall, I enjoyed this sequel to the ELEMENTAL series. It had a very fast pace and developed the characters a little bit more, which I really liked. I’m anticipating the next installment of this series, THE HEAD OF MEDUSA!

  1. I read the first book and requested the second book, but I was denied. I’m not sure if it’s worth buying. I gave the first book three stars, but I’m curious to see where this series goes. What do you suggest?

    • I thought this book was a lot more action packed than the first book, but I could probably live without reading it. If anything, buy it on Kindle for cheap if you’re still interested in continuing the series, I think! 🙂
