On a hot summer night, a screech of brakes and shattering glass changes two lives forever.

Liv wakes in the hospital, confused when they call her Morgan. She assumes it’s a case of mistaken identity, yet when the bandages come off, it’s not her face in the mirror anymore. It’s her best friend Morgan’s.

Morgan always seemed to have the perfect life, yet Liv must navigate endlessly disturbing secrets of the criminal and murderous variety—and a romance that feels like a betrayal. Torn between the boy she loved as Liv and the boy she’s grown to love as Morgan, Liv still has to survive Morgan’s last request.

1. Give us an elevator pitch for LIKE NEVER AND ALWAYS in under 140 characters.

How well do you know your best friend? Could you live her life, if you woke up in her body?

2. What’s your least favorite and favorite thing about publishing?

I love holding my words in book form for the first time. Nothing beats that tremendous, incredible feeling. Waiting for that moment? That’s my least favorite aspect. And there’s so much waiting—waiting to hear if an editor liked the manuscript, waiting for an offer, waiting for the manuscript to pass through various stages of production. That’s frustrating because I’m so excited about a story right after I write it, but by the time readers see it, I’ve been waiting for them to experience my work for close to two years!

3. What’s the strangest thing you researched while writing this book?

Wow, that’s a tough one. Probably a tossup between ‘best way to dispose of a body’ (the answer is pigs) and ‘the symbiotic relationship between wax worms and bees’.

4. What advice would you give to someone who wanted to be an author/start writing?

Don’t listen to people who say you can’t. Believe in yourself even if nobody else does. And if this is your dream, don’t ever give up. There’s no guarantee of success, but for every writer who ever made it, one thing is absolutely true. They didn’t give up.

5. What’s one book you would have no trouble rereading for the rest of your life?

I’m not much for rereading, but I go back to Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer when I’m looking for a comfort read.

6. How did you name your characters? Are they based on people you know in real life?

For contemporary books, I look at names that were popular in the year the character was born, then I pick the one I like best from the list. For SFF characters, I often make names up or combine modern names to come up with something new that sounds both fresh and familiar. I don’t base characters on real people; I also don’t name them after real people.

  1. This book sounds sooooo intriguing. I love YA fiction and have been trying to step into the door of thriller genre as well. Reading the synopsis has me wondering how it will end up being a thriller, as the description of the events and Liv’s situation sounds so calm… I’m intrigued, I’m hooked, sign me up.

I also would love to do a book review on this book on my blog and show it to my followers on my bookstagram!

  2. This book has been on my must read list since I first read about it. Mysteries and thrillers are my favorites and this one is unlike any I’ve read before. I’ve got to know how this switch happened and how this girl lives with her friend’s physical identity. Thanks for the chance to win a book that will keep me up reading!
