2018, with all it’s new book deal announcements, is slowly turning out to be a great year for the bookish community. With lots of debut authors finally getting published, sequels that have been widely anticipated by readers from all over the world, and new and exciting worlds just waiting to be discovered, we’re all pretty sure that the year ahead will be one of the best there is. And today, your Arctic Books crew is proud to individually present 5 of their most anticipated 2018 releases!
Hiya, JM here! I’ve been online on Twitter for most of the new book deal announcements and there’s no doubt about how excited I am for the following titles:
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi – With a deal that landed at or nearing seven-figures, a movie franchise that’s just on the horizon, Tomi Adeyemi’s take on an African fantasy trilogy has got to be one of my most anticipated 2018 YA novels yet. I’m a reader that usually leans towards contemporaries, but whenever I get excited for a fantasy book, I never really doubt myself. It almost always turns out to be a book that’s worth anticipating. Children of Blood and Bone will be released on March 6, 2018 from Henry Holt & Co.
Leah on The Offbeat by Becky Albertalli – Y’all know how much of a trash I am for Becky, and Simon, and Molly, and while we’re at it, why not throw in Leah into the mix, right? I’m so, so desperate for this Simon Sequel and I don’t know how I managed to survive the days that went by after I turned the last page of Simon V.S. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. I’m sure it’ll be just as heartfelt and fast-paced, if not more. Leah on The Offbeat will be released on April 24th 2018 from HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray.
Legendary by Stephanie Garber – I read Stephanie’s debut, Caraval, as an ARC way back in 2016, and I can’t believe I was able to survive 2017 without it’s sequel. Caraval still happens to be one of my most favorite YA fantasy books, and I’m so glad to be getting a sequel with a cover that’s just as jaw-dropping, and a plot that’s equally thrilling as the first book in the series. Legendary will be released on May 29, 2018 from Flatiron Books.
From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon – Sandhya first surprised me with her debut, When Dimple Met Rishi, with extremely lovable characters, a love story that I rooted for even before I read the book, and accurate Indian-American representation. I consider myself an advocate for diverse, #ownvoices novels, and so it comes as no surprise to me and to my close friends that I am extremely excited for Twinkle’s story. From Twinkle, With Love will be released on June 5, 2018 from Simon Pulse.
What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli – When I first read More Happy Than Not and Simon VS. way back in 2016, I kept on telling myself: “Wow, what if these two author besties came up with a contemporary? Will it be light and heartwarming like Becky’s books, or will it be heart wrenching and honest like Adam’s?” I honestly can’t tell you guys enough how giddy I am for this duo, I want to scream! Ben and Arthur’s story will for sure be one of my favorites for the year, I’m sure. What If It’s Us will be released on October 2nd 2018 from HarperTeen/Balzer + Bray.
Alice here! Without further ado, here are a few of my most anticipated books of 2018!
1. RESTORE ME by Tahereh Mafi // I’ve been in love with the SHATTER ME series for longer than I can remember, and when I found about the continuation of my favorite series, I screamed. I can’t even express how much I adore the cover and how much I can’t wait to have this book in my hands. RESTORE ME is released March 6th 2018 by HarperCollins.
2. MY PLAIN JANE by Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows, Cynthia Hand // MY LADY JANE was one of my favorite novels of 2016, and I adored every part of it. It’s hilarious, magical, and straight-up one of my favorite books ever. I absolutely cannot wait to have the sequel/companion in my hands soon. MY PLAIN JANE is out June 26th 2018 by HarperTeen.
3. ONCE A KING by Erin Summerill // There’s no synopsis or cover yet for this book, but I really adored Erin’s EVER THE BRAVE duology, and I’m positive that this new novel will blow my mind. I’m highly anticipating Erin’s newest this coming year! ONCE A KING is out December 4th 2018 by Houghton Mifflin.
4. ALLIED by Amy Tintera // I read RUINED, the first of this trilogy a while ago, and it is one of my favorite fantasies. Granted, I haven’t read the sequel, AVENGED, yet, but I’m sure that I will love the rest of this series as much as I adored the first book. The finale of this series releases May 1st 2018 by HarperTeen.
5. DANCE OF THIEVES by Mary E. Pearson // Mary E. Pearson is known for her romantic fantasies, filled with magical world-building and intriguing plots. Consequently, I’m beyond excited for her newest series, set in the same world as the Remnant Chronicles! DANCE OF THIEVES releases August 7th 2018 by Henry Holt & Company.
Hey Bookworms, it’s Jesse! 2018 is going to be a good year for publishing, there are so many fantasies, diverse reads, and queer books coming our way and I am so excited for them! Here are 5 of my most anticipated (some of the books above were on my list, but I didn’t want to repeat, so I chose different ones)
Immortal Reign // This is the final book in the Falling Kingdoms Series. As sad as that is for me since it is my all-time favorite fantasy series, I am equally anticipating this finale. I am hoping for a lot of action, adorable romances, and *crosses fingers* a happy ending? Knowing Morgan Rhodes, I don’t anticipate a lot of characters surviving until the end though. HA!
These Rebel Waves // I love Sara Raasch’s previous series Snow Like Ashes, so I am highly anticipating this one. IT HAS PIRATES! As well as rebels and royals. Everything about this sounds so EPIC and I cannot wait!
Iron Gold // If you know me, you know that the Red Rising Trilogy is one of my most beloved sci-fi series of all time. So when I heard that Pierce Brown was going to continue telling stories in this vast universe with my favorite characters, I knew I needed to get my hands on this one. I can’t wait for more space battles!!
The Traitor Prince // I have been following this fairytale retelling anthology since book one. Each book tells a different tale but all set in the same universe. I’m anticipating another explosive hit with this one!
Nightblood // I feel like all my picks are finales or sequels! It’s no surprise I have The Frostblood Saga’s final book on my list. I love this world and it’s characters. I nervous but excited for this ending. I don’t want to get my hopes up too much, but I’m anticipating a good finale!
Liv here! 2017 had some amazing releases, and I know that 2018 will be no different! Let’s get into some of my most anticipated releases!
What If It’s Us // This is, without a doubt, my most anticipated release of 2018. Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli are two of my favorite YA authors ever. They are such good friends IRL I was waiting for them to write a book together. And look! It’s a thing! I honestly know I’m going to love it. What If It’s Us will be released October 2nd 2018 from HarperTeen/Balzer + Bray.
Leah and the Offbeat // Staying on the theme of Becky Albertalli, my next anticipated read is Leah and the Offbeat! This book is technically a sequel to Simon which makes me want to read it even more! I’m really excited to get to read more about Leah; I don’t know how I’ll wait until April! Leah and the Offbeat will be released April 24th 2018 from HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray.
Let’s Talk About Love // THIS BOOK. Y’all, I am so excited. This book features biromantic and asexual representation. The main character is also black. So far, the ARC reviewers have been saying that the rep is really good which makes me overjoyed. I’m so glad it’s being released in January, so I don’t have to wait too long to read it. Let’s Talk About Love will be released January 23, 2018 from Swoon Reads.
Love, Hate, and Other Filters// I have only heard such good things about this book! It has an average Goodreads rating of 4.28/5 which says quite a lot! I’m also excited to read Muslim rep, and I hope 2018 brings more Muslim rep books! Love, Hate, and Other Filters will be released January 16th 2018 by Soho Teen.
Tyler Johnson Was Here // Since I saw the announcement for this book on Jay’s Twitter, I knew I needed it. Firstly, the cover for this book is gorgeous! Seriously, if I could look at one book cover for the rest of my life it would be this. Secondly, the topic of this book is very important. It is about the Black Lives Matter movement; I can’t wait. Tyler Johnson Was Here will be released March 20th 2018 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
