Monthly Recap: September 2017

Hi everyone! Today we’ll be talking about what we read, reviewed, posted, and other IRL happenings!

We are coming up to the busiest months for all us. Whether we are busy with school, work or just everyday regular life happenings, we will always make time to read! So let’s take a look into how our September went:

Hiya! JM here. When it comes to books, September has been a pretty great month for me. I hauled quite a lot of books from this year’s Manila International Book Fair, and you can check out my recap of my book fair experience here. In terms of reading, though, I kinda slowed down this month, not because I wanted to, but because of the insane book slump that I went through thanks to one of the books that I read this month. But anyway, here are all the great titles that I read this September:

1. The Meet Cute Anthology edited by Jennifer L. Armentrout // YA Contemporary. A short story collection containing different stories of when they first met from 14 authors of color. // ★★★★★
2. Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff // YA Fantasy. The sequel to the bestselling Nevernight. Follows our favorite bisexual assassin as she further discovers more secrets about herself and her master plan on gaining vengeance over the people who wronged her and the people she loves. // ★★★★.5
3. Mean Girls by Micol Ostow // YA Contemporary. The novelization of the classic Mean Girls story starring Lindsay Lohan. // ★★★
4. There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins // YA Contemporary, Thriller, Mystery. Basically a loose retelling of Scream with hints of Stephanie’s Anna and The French Kiss books.  // ★★★
5. Renegades by Marissa Meyer // YA Fantasy. An anti-hero book about heroes (Renegades) and villains (Anarchists) that’s filled with adventure, passion, betrayal, and danger. // ★★★★

Hey Bookworms, Jess here! September has been such a hectic month for me. From working two jobs, to attending a gala, school starting, and all the social engagements that occurred over the past month, I am pretty drained. But I never let that put a damper on my mood! Over the past month, I have read 13 books/graphic novels. Here are 5 of my highlights:

The Upside of Unrequited // Simon Vs. the Homo Sapien’s Agenda is one of my all time favorite books. So it is no surprise that this one was a huge highlight for the month. Becky has such an endearing way she tells her stories that I can’t help falling in love with them!

The Last Namsara // This was one epic fantasy y’all! There is dragons, action, and lots of bloodshed. Kristen creates such a unique world that has you wanted more and more!

Archie Vol. 4: Over the Edge // I was almost in tears after reading this volume of the new Archie series. This is by far one of the darkest events that have happened in the Archie universe. If you’re a fan like myself, this is a MUST READ!

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue // I don’t know how many times this book has been recommended to me over the last few months. Seriously, I don’t have enough fingers on my hands to count. IT WAS FANTASTIC. I listened to the audiobook and absolutely loved the narration. I recommend the audiobook format for sure!

Release // This was my first ever Patrick Ness book. I loved the main storyline. It was a raw and real depiction of a gay youth coming out in a highly religious family. I seen a lot of my own experiences in this book!

It’s JM again. September, as I’ve mentioned above, has been pretty exciting in terms of books. I went to this year’s Manila International Book Fair and I hauled quite a lot of titles. I also got the chance to meet Jenny Han when she came to Manila to meet her fans and sign our books.

Hey Bookworms, it’s Jesse again. September has definitely been a crazy busy month. I feel so drained from all the work I’ve had to do. A lot went on in life too. I attended a charity gala for Crohn’s and Colitis; a chronic disease I have. Also HarperCollins Canada hosted their teen preview with special author guests: Becky Albertalli, Angie Thomas, and Julie Murphy! It was such a dream come true meeting them.

• JM // As of drafting this recap, work is currently swallowing me up whole, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to read and blog as much as I want to this month. As for buying books, I’m currently in a book buying ban, so I believe there’s nothing to be excited about that. *laughs* I am, however, extremely excited to share with everyone my thoughts on Renegades by Marissa Meyer, as I am going to be a part of the blog tour that Fierce Reads will be hosting.
• Jesse // With the month of October coming up, it’s time to transition into everything fall related! That means clothes, decor, and lots of candles. Sweater weather is my favorite type of weather. October is also the month Canada celebrates Thanksgiving. So yay… FOOD!
