Tommy and Ozzie have been best friends since the second grade, and boyfriends since eighth. They spent countless days dreaming of escaping their small town—and then Tommy vanished.
More accurately, he ceased to exist, erased from the minds and memories of everyone who knew him. Everyone except Ozzie.
Ozzie doesn’t know how to navigate life without Tommy and soon suspects that something else is going on—that the universe is shrinking.
When Ozzie is paired up with the reclusive and secretive Calvin for a physics project, it’s hard for him to deny the feelings that develop between them, even if he still loves Tommy.
But Ozzie knows there isn’t much time left to find Tommy—that once the door closes, it can’t be opened again. And he’s determined to keep it open as long as possible.
AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE was another stellar read from one of my favorite authors, Shaun David Hutchinson. It was equal bits compelling, unique and heart breaking!
It follows Ozzie as he tries to navigate his life with his ex-boyfriend being erased from existence. That’s right folks, you heard me right. Tommy doesn’t exist anymore, but did he ever? His parents don’t remember him, his friends, don’t remember him, no one in the whole town remembers who Tommy is except Ozzie.
Staying true to what he does great, Hutchinson goes metaphorical again this time around. Unfortunately to avoid spoilers I can’t elaborate more on this topic. Just know it is well worth the read.
Hutchinson knows how to right amazing characters. If it wasn’t for his unique story-telling, I would say you should read his books for his characters! Ozzie doesn’t know how to go through life without his ex-boyfriend, Tommy. It’s even worse now that no one knows who Tommy is anymore. I found him very endearing to read and I sympathized with him every step of the way.
Heartbreak is a devastating experience to go through. If you haven’t experienced it before, Hutchinson pretty much sums it all up in this book. I connected with the characters, the plot, and especially the beautiful writing.
Overall, I highly enjoyed this one, A LOT! Please do yourselves a favor and go pick yourself up a copy. It will be worth it. I promise you!
