THE MIDNIGHT STAR was one of my most anticipated books of this year, and I’m so thrilled to have been able to read this thrilling finale. Of course, Marie Lu did not disappoint, and I’m proud to say that she’s kept her place on my favorite authors list.

THE MIDNIGHT STAR follows Adelina and her Roses as well as the Dagger society while they try to figure out how to fix the problem with all of the Elites slowly dying. As such, they must band together to journey to the place where the real world connects to the Underworld. I personally read this book more quickly than I had the previous two books but the plot was just as, if not more, exhilarating.
The Young Elites were the flash of light in a stormy sky, the fleeting darkness before dawn. Never have they existed before, not shall they ever exist again.
Adelina’s character was developed even more throughout this novel. I’m a huge sucker for character development, and the sacrifices that she made still proves that she’s more than a villain in this series—she has a conscience, despite how her actions may prove otherwise. I was pretty surprised to read the fates of all of the characters, but I definitely enjoyed how Lu ended this trilogy.

The romance in this novel was very swoonworthy, especially between Adelina and Magiano! There will be more closure in terms of the love triangle, if you’re wondering! Although I adored the romance, I loved the bond between Violetta and Adelina even more. Adelina has done such dark things, but it’s clear that she’s not totally villainous. (Or maybe she is.) Adelina’s bond with her sister and the lengths that Adelina will go to save her just gave me chills.
So we wait together as we drift silently through the stars.
Overall, THE MIDNIGHT STAR leaves readers with a bittersweet ending and will leave you a crying mess (like me). If you haven’t read THE YOUNG ELITES series yet, I would definitely recommend it! Marie Lu’s writing has once again left me in awe, and I can’t wait to read her next works.
