Review: Fire Falling by Elise Kova | Crystal Tour + Giveaway!

Welcome to my stop on the CRYSTAL TOUR! This tour marks the end of the AIR AWAKENS series, and although I have only read up to book 2, I’m super bittersweet about this. Today, I have a review of FIRE FALLING and quite a few giveaways. Let’s get started with celebrating!

FIRE FALLING is the thrilling sequel to AIR AWAKENS, and needless to say, I was fully immersed into the fantasy world Elise Kova has created in her series. This sequel follows Vhalla as she continues to try to survive as being a weapon for the Empire’s war in the north. Throughout her survival, Vhalla continues to explore her relationship with the crown prince, Aldrik, and her newfound magic in regards to the environment around her.

The plot is fast-paced and entertaining, and although it seemed to me to be a bit slow in the beginning of the book (possibly due to the time frame between when I read the first book and the second book), it definitely picks up speed as you continue reading.

My favorite dynamic in this sequel was the growing relationship between Aldrik and Vhalla. As you all probably know, I’m a huge fan of angsty and emotional romances and this book gave me exactly that. The development between Aldrik and Vhalla kept me so enticed until the very end, and even then, I still can’t get enough.

The characters definitely go through many evolutions. Vhalla is learning how to survive, and towards the end, Vhalla goes through some pretty major changes in her own self. Additionally, it’s very clear that Aldrik is changing, too, and I loved reading about his and Baldair’s shaky, yet mutually understanding relationship. Although, I would have also liked to learn more about the king and the other secondary characters throughout this novel.

Overall, FIRE FALLING was a very satisfying read and very much so lacked the common second book lethargy that seems to be a bit common in young adult books. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book, EARTH ENDS, due to that major cliffhanger at the end (just a forewarning)!
