Discussion Questions

1. Of the lands that we have visited so far in the book, where in the Witchlands would you want to live, given the choice?

The-Witchlands.jpg

Merik is the prince of Nubrevna, so my gut is really telling me that I’d like that region.
2. There have been quite a few mottos and words of wisdom used by a few of the characters so far. Which one is your favourite? Do you have any special phrases that help you get through your day?

“Sometimes justice was all about the small victories (189).” – Aeduan

I really like this quote. Even though it’s taken out of context from Aeduan’s true situation, it’s still true in reality. Even the little victories can be successful, and the little steps will eventually take you to the goal! (Aeduan is becoming my favorite character.)

I don’t usually have quotes to push me through the day, but if I were to, I would choose this quote from Truthwitch, and from my favorite book (Shatter Me), I love the quote: “Ignite, my love. Ignite.”

3. Friendship is a main theme that pulses through Truthwitch. Do you have a relationship like Safi and Iseult? Is there someone out there who always has your back and will defend you?

Currently, no. I don’t have that emotional connection with anyone, although I did when I was younger! It’s definitely nice to feel like you’re always supported and cared for.

4. If you were inserted into one of the novel’s epic battle scenes, which witchery would you like to have in order to defend yourself?

I would like to be a Bloodwitch like Aeduan. Since he doesn’t die from wounds (only suffers the pain) and can only die if beheaded, I think it would pay off in a battle as it would be difficult to kill me.

CHARACTER SPOTLIGHT: ISEULT

Do you find Iseult to be a likeable character? How do you feel about the way she is treated like an outcast? Do you think she is a good influence on Safiya?

I like her. She’s tough and strong and knows how to fight, which is admirable. Yes, she’s treated as an outcast, but I feel as if her connection with Safiya as Threadsisters can, to an extent, make up for it. I also really appreciate her relationship with Safiya; their friendship is so well-written, and I love the way that they’re portrayed as different but also similar in uncountable ways.

  1. Hmm, I’d probably follow Merik to Nubrevna if I were given a chance, so good choice! LOL The Shatter Me quote is very intriguing, I haven’t read that one yet, but just that quote makes me want to pick it up!

  2. I think that Nubrevna would be a fantastic choice! More chances to spend time with Merik! Being a Bloodwitch would be pretty incredible for battles. I am just not sure about how I would feel about being hated and feared by so many. 🙂

  3. I’m definitely interesting in seeing more of Nubrevna and would go explore in a heartbeat! I also really loved the quote you chose from the book. I think it’s such a strong line that I agree with! Really enjoyed reading your answers 🙂
